Republicans on the Legislature’s budget committee are telling Wisconsin business leaders they are optimistic the next state spending plan with include a tax cut.
That word comes as members of the Joint Finance Committee get ready to cut hundreds of Democratic Governor Tony Evers’ proposals – including a billion dollars in tax hikes, mostly on capital gains and manufacturing income.
Republicans also are firm on plans to refuse a big chunk of federal money for Medicaid expansion.
They say the final version of the two-year state budget will look more like the current budget than the plan offered by the governor in February.
