There was a slew of softball games played throughout the area yesterday (May 13th).
New Holstein rallied to defeat Roncalli 8-to-7 in an EWC girls softball game played in Manitowoc. The winning pitcher was Natalie Ziebell in relief of starter Jenna Karls, while Jena Garceau went the distance and took the loss. Alyssa Woeffel paced the Huskies offense with a 3-hit, 4-RBI performance. Maddie Hablewitz and Abby Stelzer led the Jets with 2-hits apiece. With the win, New Holstein goes to 10-2 overall, 7-1 in conference. Roncalli drops to 4-4 overall and in league.
At the Manitowoc Youth Sports Complex at Citizen Park yesterday, the Manitowoc Lincoln Ships defeated Ashwaubenon 4-1. Karenna Sorenson worked the first 4 innings to get the win while Lizzy Stuebs pitched 3-innings of 1-hit softball with 4-strikeouts for a save. Stuebs also had 2-hits and scored 3-runs with Sorenson getting a single, a double, and RBI and a run scored.
Manitowoc Lutheran swept a doubleheader from visiting Elkhart Lake-Glenbeulah by scores of 6-5 in nine innings in the opener and then 6-3 in six frames, with the 2nd game called because of darkness. Aubrey Schleis went the distance in game-1, scattering 11-hits and 4-earned runs while Olivia Siehr led the Lancers offense going 3-for-5 with 2-doubles including the game-winner in the bottom of the 9th. In the nightcap, winning pitcher Jenna Lischka also helped herself at the plate by going 2-for-3 with a double and triple. Paige Zirbel earned a save.
At Valders last night, the Vikings shutout Sheboygan Falls/Kohler 8-0. Taylor Hammel pitched a complete-game, allowing just 2-hits and a walk with 11-strikeouts. Taylor also paced Coach Brian Glaeser’s team at the plate by going 3-for-4 with 3-RBI’s. Berrin Vandenheuvel added 2-hits and 2-runs batted in as the Valders improves to 5-3 overall, 4-3 in the E-W-C.
