A Mishicot school is receiving a makeover-so to speak.
O.H. Shultz Elementary is getting a painted mural put on it. Carly Dellger is an art teacher at the school who tells Seehafer News that she was inspired by the many murals going up in Manitowoc.
“It was an idea that I had initially, but then it worked its way out to be something that I and the artists felt good and confident about,” she explained. “That we could execute, and that it would look really good.”
Work began Friday afternoon in collaboration with artists Erin La Bonte and Don Krumpas of Algoma along with the school’s Art Department and Parent Backers.
Dellger says it’s being painted on the playground wall for all the community to celebrate.
“It’s going to be a really colorful, geometric faceted background,” Dellger explained. “We are going to have some silhouettes of students playing with equipment, swinging, jump roping, and doing activities you would do during recces or at Phy Ed class.”
The original plan was for the mural to be pained last year by students and staff, but it was delayed to this spring due to the pandemic with painting being done by just the adults, but Dellger said “it doesn’t take away all the work the kids put into this project.”
OHS’ Art Educator also told Seehafer News, “Having murals in the community really elevates it and makes it a place you really want to be. I hope the kids can look back one day and feel good about their contribution to the school and community. I hope we can add more in the future.”
