The mask mandate put in place by the City of Manitowoc for city-owned facilities is set to expire at midnight tonight (May 17th), and Mayor Justin Nickels says it will not be extended.
In a news release, Mayor Nickels explained that “The Common Council is meeting this evening and they will not be acting on extending the mask mandate, so this will be effective starting tomorrow.”
That being said, there are a few exceptions.
The Manitowoc Public Library will still require masks (for citizens and employees) through next Monday, May 24th, while the Manitowoc Metro Transit lobby and busses will still require masks to be worn per FTA (Federal Transit Authority) requirements.
As of now, that is through September 13th.
Also, the Municipal Court still requires masks (in council chambers) per State Supreme Court rules.
