The Two Rivers City Council recently approved the startup of a K-9 program in the city’s police department.
Police Chief Brian Kohlmeier tells Seehafer News they’re excited to get the K-9 idea underway.
“Thankfully we received a donation from one of our past city council members who passed away last year,” he explained. “Mr. Jim Taddy donated a large sum of money to the police and fire departments. $50,000 of his donation is going toward the start of getting our program up and running.”
Kohlmeier explains that one of his officers, Andy Lade, suggested the department start such a program at the end of last year and now it’s going to happen.
The chief stated they’ll be starting a funding drive for a community match because, “K-9 programs aren’t cheap and we want to make sure that we have sustainability in the program, that we’re not just starting something and not able to sustain it.”
One resident of Two Rivers has already donated $10,000 to the K-9 program and she will be recognized at an upcoming city council meeting.
