Manitowoc’s mask mandate in “city-owned facilities” expired at 12:00 A.M. on Tuesday. Mayor Justin Nickels says the Common Council did not discuss extending it during last (Monday) night’s meeting.
“This was not a city-wide mandate just for city-owned facilities including City Hall, The Senior Center, and the Rahr West Art Museum. The Library by recommendation of its board extended it until May 24th but basically, it expired.”
Another exception is a mask will be required while riding the city bus and while inside the Maritime Metro Building through September 13th per The Federal Transit Authority. Nickels says the city facility mandate lasted about a year.
“We’ve implemented several health safety procedures in place. There’s more separation between employees and their workstations along with customers and the service areas. We’ve added cleaners in common areas and feel good that these measures will help all feel safe.”
The Mayor adds, “We (the city) please ask people to be courteous and respectful around others from this point forward. Citizens should feel safe and protected with the safety procedures put in place over the last year.”
