The new director for the Milwaukee Office of Violence Prevention says everyone has a role in the fight.
Arnitta Holliman says that if we all take responsibility, we can get a lot more done.
Through Thursday Milwaukee has seen 60 homicides and 289 non-deadly shootings.
That’s twice as many shootings as the city had experienced last year at this time.
Holliman says a combination of factors is driving the gun violence – the isolation of the pandemic, the loss of jobs, the loss of family and friends.
Holliman says she wants to focus on domestic violence and suicide prevention and she hopes her office can eventually add more staff members.
