The Milwaukee Brewers beat the San Diego Padres 5-3 in the series opener Monday night for a third straight victory.
Brandon Woodruff pitched seven scoreless innings and struck out eight for the win. Reliever Angel Perdomo gave up San Diego’s three runs in the ninth before Josh Hader came in to pick up the save.
Manny Pina hit a two-run homer, Avisail Garcia added a solo shot and Kolten Wong drove in a pair of runs for Milwaukeee.
Infielder Keston Hiura is back with the big league team in Milwaukee after a stint with the Triple-A Nashville. Hiura hit .428 with four home runs in nine starts for the Sound. He started the season in a hitting slump for the Brewers with a .152 average in 26 games. Hiura had one hit and a walk in Monday’s 5-3 win over San Diego.
Padres left-hander Blake Snell gave up five runs over three-and-two-thirds innings to take the loss.
Corbin Burnes is on the mound for the Crew tonight (mAY 25th) at 6:40 PM in the second game at American Family Field.
