Governor Tony Evers is blasting Republican lawmakers for refusing to expand BadgerCare for 90,000 Wisconsin residents.
Legislators met in special session Tuesday and then immediately gaveled out without considering Medicaid expansion. Evers says, ” Assembly Speaker Robin Vos said no way right from the beginning around BadgerCare, when we put it together with a lot of good projects like this, they said no way.”
Evers’ proposal included projects he said could be covered with more than a billion dollars in federal funding for expanding BadgerCare. In a letter to Evers, Vos said, “expanding Medicaid as you have proposed is unneeded and even reckless in a state that has no coverage gap and has an effective reinsurance program.”
