Konecranes #38 crane a.k.a. “The Big Blue Crane” tentatively plans to leave the Manitowoc Port Sunday morning.
This news was confirmed by both Matthew Boor Director of Business Development for Broadwind Heavy Industries and Mayor Justin Nickels Friday evening.
Construction of the 170 ton- $55 million crane was completed earlier this year and was celebrated April 29th drawing several dignitaries to Manitowoc including Governor Tony Evers. The U.S. Navy recently finished its inspection and the crane will now be loaded onto a barge and shipped to the East Coast where it will be used to lift submarines.
Mayor Nickels tells us that the plan is to leave at 7 a.m. but could be as late as 10 a.m. depending on several variables. If you plan on driving on either 8thor 10th Street expect longer than usual delays with the bridge being open.
