Bail is set at $2000 cash for a 40-year-old Manitowoc man arrested on suspicion Of drunk driving. Gregory A. Schmidt is charged with OWI, his Fourth Offense, and Five Counts of Felony Bail Jumping.
An Officer was dispatched to the area of 16th and Madison Streets shortly after 8 p.m. Thursday night (May 27th) on a witness account of someone driving on the curb and driving against the flow of traffic-almost striking multiple parked vehicles.
Schmidt eventually ended up parked in the 1000 block of South 18th Street. As the Officer approached, he noticed Schmidt appeared intoxicated and disoriented.
After originally denying drinking alcohol, Schmidt admitted he drank “a little.” He was placed into handcuffs, taken to the back of the squad car, and after originally being uncooperative submitted to a blood draw at Holy Family Memorial then taken to the Manitowoc County Jail.
A preliminary breath test at the jail registered a BAC of .235, nearly three times above the legal limit.
Conditions of bail are that Schmidt does not operate a vehicle, maintain absolute sobriety, have no contact with any premises whose primary purpose is selling alcohol, and provide photos and prints to Manitowoc Police within 24 hours of release.
Schmidt remains in the County Jail and his initial appearance is scheduled for June 7th at 1:30 p.m.
