The leader of the Wisconsin Economic Development Corporation says higher-than-normal unemployment benefits aren’t the only reason state businesses are dealing with a shortage of workers.
WEDC Secretary Missy Hughes says Wisconsin has had difficulty finding workers for years. Hughes blamed the state’s aging workforce during an appearance on Milwaukee television station WISN’s UPFRONT program.
Republican lawmakers and business groups say enhanced federal unemployment benefits mean people can make more than $16 an hour just staying home.
