The Racine County Sheriff’s Office is investigating the deaths of two jail inmates over a four-day period.
A 22-year-old man died in his cell Saturday, just a few hours after he had been taken into custody for operating while intoxicated. On Tuesday, 27-year-old Malcolm James died from injuries he suffered while hitting his head on the wall of his cell. James was on suicide watch at the time. He had already been taken to a hospital for medical treatment previously.
James’s family is asking why his mental health crisis wasn’t addressed. He had been arrested for setting a fire in his apartment.
