A Thursday virtual hearing conducted by the Department of Natural Resources drew some strong opposition to plans for a large hog farm in Crawford County.
People living nearby said they are worried about the impact on the area’s groundwater, air quality, property values, and local tourism.
Nearly 3,000 pigs would be located at the Roth Feeder hog farm.
Owners estimate the Concentrated Animal Feeding Operation would produce more than nine million gallons of manure and wastewater per year.
It would be located near the Kickapoo River.
Many people speaking during the virtual hearing called for the D-N-R to conduct an environmental impact study before moving forward.
