Wisconsin Manufacturers and Commerce is challenging the governor’s assertion about federal unemployment benefits hurting businesses.
Governor Tony Evers claimed there is no evidence the additional benefits are keeping people from returning to work. The state’s largest business group is pointing to research by an economist at the University of Wisconsin-Madison, data from the hiring website Indeed, and comments from the Federal Reserve Bank of San Francisco.
All three sources say the extra $300 a week in federal unemployment benefits is enough to keep people from returning to work.
