The Legislature’s budget panel has agreed to borrow $125 million for broadband expansion in rural Wisconsin. The money will go toward grants for companies or organizations that bring faster internet service to those underserved areas. Governor Tony Evers has said he wants to spend $200 million on the same projects.
The Republican-controlled Joint Finance Committee says Evers has billions of dollars in federal stimulus money that he can spend on it.
