A Republican state lawmaker describes Wisconsin’s largest city as resembling a war zone.
State Representative Joe Sanfelippo of New Berlin wants the governor to activate the Wisconsin National Guard “to help restore safety to Milwaukee neighborhoods.”
Sanfelippo made his request after a violent weekend that left 15 people suffering from wounds and three victims dead.
Instead of calling for the National Guard, Governor Evers and Milwaukee Mayor Tom Barrett – both Democrats – urged Sanfelippo and his fellow Republicans to devote more funding for violence reduction measures in the state budget.
