Much of Wisconsin is currently primed for another major outbreak of wildfires.
According to the DNR, if you draw a line from the northwestern part of the state down to the southeastern part, every county west of that line is currently in the high fire danger category, while the rest, minus five counties in North Eastern Wisconsin, are listed in the Moderate category.
The Counties surrounding Manitowoc County are all listed as Moderate.
The DNR cites the dry weather and high temperatures as the reason for the higher fire risk.
They ask that residents be extra careful with any outdoor flames, campfires, ash disposal, or equipment use, and to check any recent debris burns for smoldering embers, as breezy conditions can cause fires to rekindle.
So far this year, the DNR has responded to a total of 765 wildfires, which have burned over 1,900 acres of land.
