A poll released this week shows a sharp divide along racial lines when it comes to how Milwaukee police officers do their jobs.
61% of respondents rated Milwaukee police as either fair or poor, but 81% of Black residents give police a low rating. 63% of those polled said police do a good job and treat people of different races fairly.
Black residents disagree, with 71% saying they are treated differently by police based on their race.
The same poll – conducted by Suffolk University in Boston, USA Today, and the Milwaukee Journal-Sentinel – finds residents opposed to defunding the police department by a margin of almost two to one.
