A 2020 graduate of Manitowoc Lincoln High School has switched positions on the Central Michigan University football team.
Davis Heinzen, who attends Central Michigan in Mount Pleasant, was originally recruited by the Chippewas’ as a tight end, but, according to his father Jeff, Heinzen has an opportunity to get on the field quicker as an offensive tackle.
Davis has been back at school now for a couple of weeks and taking part in summer OTA’s for Central Michigan. And, he’s bulked up that 6-foot-5-inch frame and is pushing 270 pounds.
He is behind another lakeshore area product Luke Goedeke of Valders who is healthy again after sustaining an ACL injury.
Heinzen’s goal in this his freshman season athletically is to make the Chippewas’ traveling squad for road games this fall. And that would mean trips to Missouri September 4th and two weeks later to LSU.
The former Ships multi-sport athlete hopes to have a slow, steady weight gain to eventually 290-pounds.
Davis is the son of Jeff and Tina Heinzen of Manitowoc.
