The Kenosha City Council has unanimously denied a claim for damages by Jacob Blake – the Black man paralyzed when he was shot by a white police officer last summer.
Officials say the claim was filed as a formality that could allow Blake to sue for damages.
It was capped at $50,000 under Wisconsin law.
Blake was seeking damages for medical expenses, lost wages, and “pain and suffering and disfigurement.”
Blake’s lawyer had submitted a list of expenses totaling almost $777,000.
