The Class of 1972 at Manitowoc Lincoln High School is asking for support from the community as construction is underway on a new Council Ring on the campus.
Peggy Krey from the Gift Committee of the Class of ’72 said in a news release that the original Council Ring was located in front of the Natatorium, but was removed after having fallen into disrepair.
Krey explains the design was from Chicago landscape architect Jens Jensen, who also designed the beautiful campus on 19-acres overlooking Lake Michigan. The Council Ring was Jensen’s signature as he saw stones arranged in a circle as the original grouping of mankind, an equalization of responsibility and honor, an affirmation that all members of the gathering are important to it.
Lincoln, which is presently the oldest public school in Wisconsin, will be celebrating its’ centennial in 2023, and, the Class of 1972, with community support, is making this gift as a way of honoring the school’s history and to leave a legacy for future generations.
If you would like to help honor the education that thousands have received from Lincoln High, send your tax-deductible contribution to the Manitowoc Public School District Foundation, Attn: Peggy Krey, P.O. Box 13, Manitowoc, WI 54221-0013.
