Sharon L. Stryhn, age 73, a resident of Manitowoc, passed away peacefully on Friday, June 25, 2021 at her home while surrounded by family after a long and courageous battle with cancer.
Sharon was born on September 29, 1947 in Manitowoc, daughter of the late Earl and Lydia (Baumann) Nelson. She grew up in Manitowoc and was a 1965 graduate of Manitowoc Lincoln High School. Sharon met Gary L. Stryhn and they married on August 28, 1972. They lived in Dayton, WI for four years before returning to Manitowoc in 1976 to raise their family. Sharon worked in many different office management positions throughout her career including many years at Hein Plumbing and 12 years as Health Information Manager at St. Mary’s Home/Felician Village from which she retired in 2008. She had many different interests and passions, but nothing gave her more pleasure than being a mom, grandma and wife to her family. Sharon spent many hours listening to her husband sing, reading love inspired historical novels, watching Hallmark movies, cooking, camping in Door County, and watching Packer games. Sharon was known for having a big heart and being accepting of everyone.
Survivors include her husband of 48 years, Gary Stryhn, Manitowoc; two children, Jeremy (Kari) Stryhn, Manitowoc, and Brendon (Jenny A.) Stryhn, Starbuck, MN; six grandchildren, Dylan, Taylor, Trenton, Lauren, Grayson, and Braeleigh; three siblings, Randy (Karen) Nelson, Rick (Linda) Nelson, all of Manitowoc, and Corie (Kris) LaRocque, Wabeno, WI; three brothers-in-law and three sisters-in-law, Jerome Braun, Darla Nelson and Linda Nelson, all of Manitowoc, Rodney (Jan) Stryhn, Longview, WA, Carol (Cliff) Muchow and Kenneth Nehls, all of Evansville, WI; as well as many nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends. She was preceded in death by her parents, Earl and Lydia Nelson; two brothers, Robert and Russell Nelson; sister, Darlene Braun; father-in-law and mother-in-law, Rodger and Betty Stryhn, and sister-in-law, Barbara Nehls.
Funeral services will be held at 1 p.m. on Wednesday, June 30, 2021 at the Harrigan Parkside Funeral Home. Rev. Jason Blahnik will officiate with burial to follow at Knollwood Memorial Gardens. A luncheon will then be held at the Harrigan Parkside Gathering Center located on the south property of the Harrigan Parkside Funeral Home. The family will greet relatives and friends at the Harrigan Parkside Funeral Home on Wednesday from 11 a.m. until the time of the funeral service at 1 p.m. The funeral service will be streamed live on the Harrigan Parkside Funeral Home Facebook page at approximately 1 p.m. and a link to a recording of the funeral service will be added to Sharon’s obituary on the Harrigan Parkside Funeral Home website. In lieu of flowers, the family prefers that donations be made to the Holy Family Cancer Center in memory of Sharon.
