Manitowoc native and Roncalli High School graduate Ben Stelzer is returning to his college alma-mater in Houghton, Michigan.
Michigan Tech Men’s Basketball Coach Josh Buettner announced recently that Stelzer has been hired as an assistant coach for the upcoming season.
Ben, the son of John and Maureen Stelzer, returns to the UP after playing professional basketball overseas and coaching at several levels since his graduation from Michigan Tech in 2015.
Stelzer was a 4-year starter for the Huskies, 3-year captain and finished his playing career as the program’s all-time leader in 3-pointers with 363.
Coach Buettner said “I’m extremely excited to work with Ben. His work ethic, intensity, knowledge and passion will be awesome for Michigan Tech basketball. He embodies all of the qualities that this school represents both as a coach and as a person.”
Stelzer, who earned a Bachelor of Science degree in Finance and a minor in Economics, was an assistant coach with UW-Oshkosh during the Titans 2019 NCAA Division-3 national championship run.
Ben has most recently held the position of Player Development Intern with the (NBA’s) Dallas Mavericks as well as Solid Base Skills and Drills website developer and owner.
That provides remote player development training for players and teams from youth all the way to the college level.
