Manitowoc rallied from an early 4-0 deficit to defeat visiting Fond du lac 6-to-4 in American Legion Baseball last night at Municipal Field.
Post-88 would begin its’ comeback by scoring a run in the 4th inning and then tied it on a 3-run homer by Brillion High School graduate Robert Shimek in the 5th. Another Lions athlete Carter Stebane drove in the go-ahead run an inning later on an RBI triple.
Stebane would then add icing on the cake by scoring on a wild pitch.
Starting pitcher Jacob Gallagher, a senior at Manitowoc Lincoln worked the first 4-innings and allowed 2-earned runs on 6-hits with 4-strikeouts and 2-walks.
Kiel’s Brandon Stephany picked up the win in relief, by allowing just 1-hit to go along with 5-strikeouts over the final 3 frames.
Stebane went 2-for-4 with a double, triple, an RBI, 2-stolen bases, and 2-runs scored, Shimek had that big home run, along with a double and ‘4’ RBI’s, a walk, and a stolen base.
Hilbert’s Ridge Guyette also reached base 3-times on a base hit, 2-walks, 2-runs scored, and a stolen base.
Manitowoc will enjoy the July 4th holiday break before returning to action with five games next week.
