Illinois state and county officials have filed a lawsuit against Chemtool over the fire at its plant last month in Rockton.
Attorney General Kwame Raoul and Winnebago County State’s Attorney J. Hanley claim the June 14th fire and efforts to control it sent smoke, particulate matter, and other contaminants into the environment.
The suit was filed Friday in Winnebago County Circuit Court in Rockford.
The court is being asked to require Chemtool to cover the costs incurred when they responded to the incident.
The plant is less than four miles south of Beloit.
