The Manitowoc American Legion varsity baseball team improved its season record to 8-1 with a doubleheader sweep of Stevens Point Saturday.
Legion Post-88 captured the opener 3-0 behind a complete game 6-hitter by Lincoln junior Ashton Portmann, who walked 2 and struck out 6.
He was backed by Brandon Stephany of Kiel and Zach Marten of Manitowoc Lutheran who each went 2-for-4 with an RBI and a run scored.
Josh Uhlhorn of the Lancers added a double and a run scored.
In Game-2 won by Manitowoc 12-to-5, Uhlhorn earned the win with Stephany getting the save.
The visitors banged out 12-basehits in the nightcap led by Marten and Stephany, who had 3-hits apiece.
The Legion baseball team is scheduled to play Sheboygan on the road tonight (July 12th) with an approximate 7:30 PMfirst pitch at Wildwood Park.
