Raymond A. Wiebensohn, 90, a longtime Mishicot resident, died peacefully at his residence early Friday morning, July 9, 2021 with his loving family at his side.
Ray was born to the late Karl Sr. and Christine (Bremer) Wiebensohn in Two Rivers on December 20, 1930. When he was 17, Ray moved to Iowa and met the love of his life, Betty A. Dreessen. They married on January 11, 1953 in Gladbrook, Iowa. The couple celebrated sixty-six wonderful years together before her death on March 14, 2019. Ray served his country as a member of the U.S. Army, stationed in Anchorage, Alaska from 1953 until his honorable discharge in 1955. During this time, he trained for the Korean War. In 1963 he purchased Sandy Bay Mink Ranch, now in it’s third generation of family ownership. He proudly enjoyed working side by side with all of his family until the age of 85. His favorite quote was “If you’re not working, you’re spending!”
Survivors include his five children: Kent (Jennifer) Wiebensohn, Laurie (Tom) Arkens, Lynne (Dave) Dirkmann, Kurt Wiebensohn (fiance, Linda Rockwell) and Brad (Tracy) Wiebensohn. Fifteen grandchildren: Karl Wiebensohn (special friend April), Scott Wiebensohn (special friend Shannon), Brett Wiebensohn, Keith (Sara) Wiebensohn; Brian (Brenda) Arkens, Alan Arkens, Paul (Kari) Arkens; Adam (Jen) Dirkmann, Matt (Samantha) Dirkmann, Mike Dirkmann, Emily (Justin) Fowler; Stephanie (Jake) Becken, Miranda (Tony) Schweigl; Randy (Jacque) Wiebensohn and Katie (Nick) Radandt. Twenty two great-grandchildren: Aiden, Liam, Lexi, Marcus, Brandt, Bryce, Colton, Jax, Beckett, Finnley, Sadie, Harper, Nash, Addison, Riggins, Gracelyn, Elena, Carter, Audrina, McKayla, Aria and Rayna. He is further survived by one sister, Ruth (Tweet) Carstensen; sister-in-law, Pat Wiebensohn; and several nieces, nephews, other relatives and special friends. He was preceded in death by his parents, Karl Sr. and Christine Wiebensohn; his wife, Betty; brothers and sisters: Ilse (John) Eatwell, Pete (Molly) Wiebensohn, Tootsie Wiebensohn, Karl Wiebensohn, Jr.; brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law: Alma (Jim) Gilchrist; Ray (Marge) Dresseen; his father-in-law & mother-in-law: Hans and Helga Dreessen; and life-long friends, Denton and Marlene Schmidt.
Ray enjoyed attending the many sporting events which his children & grandchildren participated in over the years. He enjoyed many fun weekends at the Lakewood cottage – water skiing and snowmobiling. In addition, he enjoyed many years of traveling with Betty as well as an occasional stop at a casino.
Funeral services will be held at 2:00 p.m. Tuesday, July 13, 2021 at St. Peter’s Lutheran Church in Mishicot. The Rev. Joel Stuebs will officiate at the service, with burial to follow in the Mishicot Public Cemetery. Military graveside rites will be accorded by members of Kempen-Staudinger-Terrens VFW Post #7753 of Mishicot.
The family will greet relatives and friends at St. Peter’s Lutheran Church Tuesday afternoon from 12:00 noon until 2:00 p.m. There will be no Monday evening visitation.
