Acoustic music in the park returns to Manitowoc, following a 1-year hiatus because of COVID-19.
A free concert known as Acoustic Fest featuring nine local, state, and national acts is scheduled for Saturday (July 17th) at Washington Park, according to event organizer Pete Honzik.
“It’s just a community event; another way to utilize this wonderful park we have, and bring people together,” Honzik told Seehafer News. “After last year, we needed that.”
Live music starts in the park at 11 :00 AM, and one of the top entertainers in the region, Janet Planet, takes to the stage at 2:00 PM. The headliner at 7:30 Saturday night will be “Thunderstorm Artis.”
“He’s a phenomenal guitar player as well as singer and songwriter, and he plays a great harmonica,” Honzik said. “He really captured us when he was here two years ago.”
Unfortunately, Honzik says only about 100-people witnessed his talents because inclement weather forced the concert to an indoor setting.
The annual scholarship winner, Anna Heinzen, a student at St. Norbert College in De Pere, performs at 5:00 PM.
“The scholarship really was in honor of…Jim Krueger, one of the best musicians to come out of this area,” Honzik explained. “We are just trying to keep people engaged in our hometown, stuff that’s come out of our hometown.”
Scholarships in the amount of over $20,000 have been presented to local young people since the event began 25-years ago.

Food and refreshments will be available for sale in the park, and, this will mark Pete Honzik’s final show as president as he is retiring and handing over the Acoustic Fest reins to Catherine Egger.
