Even though there are more people driving in the City of Manitowoc, the number of crashes was down from last year.
June of 2020 was right in the middle of the Safer at Home Order, meaning fewer people were traveling on City roads, yet according to the Monthly Report from the Manitowoc Police Department, there were 94 automobile crashes within the city limits during that month.
Fast forward one year, and there were to 92 last month.
The numbers are just as close for the year-to-date statistic, with 529 reported so far this year, compared to 527 at this point last year.
We are currently on track to have 1,058 crashes this year, which is slightly higher than the 1,032 in all of 2020, but significantly lower than in 2019 when 1,268 crashes were reported.
