The Racine County Sheriff’s Office has identified the shooter who killed a man at a Caledonia gas station, then wounded an undercover deputy – before he was killed himself.
Authorities say 32-year-old John R. McCarthy of Hartland shot an Elkhorn man to death at the Pilot Travel Center Tuesday.
22-year-old Anthony F. Griger of Elkhorn was the victim.
McCarthy then drove two miles to another gas station when he wounded the deputy before being fatally shot.
The deputy is recovering from multiple gunshot wounds. His name hasn’t been released.
