Back in 1936, in the middle of summer, snow was found while crews were digging in the ground for a construction project. Because Wisconsinites love a reason to get together, Snowfest was born.
The event was a staple of the Two Rivers Summer festival calendar for many years but went by the wayside in the ’90s. Now, Tony Sachse and the rest of the Friends of Two Rivers Snow Fest have brought it back.
When asked why they resurrected the event, Sachse said, “Two Rivers has experienced a lot of loss and change over the last number of years, and we feel like something like this could be a catalyst to bring people to the City again.”
As is tradition with any big event, there are a ton of local and area bands that will be playing, including a KISS tribute band named Strutter. They are not a local band, but they have a local tie in their Ace Frehley impersonator, Max Schroeder.
“He is actually part of the Schroeder family, from Schroeder Department Store,” Tony explained. “Matt played in the area before as a solo artist, but this is the first time he is bringing the band back.”
Strutter will take the stage at 10:00 Saturday evening (July 24th), but the festivities will actually begin at 4:00 on Friday with several bands at Nashotah Park and Walsh Field.
There is also a Snowfest parade at 11:00 Saturday morning, along with a carnival, Manitowoc Zoo demonstration, and an appearance of Elsa and Anna from Disney’s Frozen.
