A pair of Badger football players have been named on watch lists as the 2021 college football season approaches.
Linebacker Jack Sanborn was included on the Bednarik Award Watch List. That honor goes to the top defensive player in college football at the end of each season.
A two-year starter, Sanborn has made 139 tackles, 13 tackles for loss, six-and-a-half sacks, four interceptions, and forced three fumbles.
Quarterback Graham Mertz was included on the Davey O’Brien Award Watch List. The sophomore is in the running for the award given each year to the top quarterback in college football.
He completed 61 percent of his passes last season, for 1,238 yards in seven games, with nine T-D passes and five interceptions.
