Many citizens are curious about the next step to be taken for the possible development of the Mirro Property in Manitowoc. Mayor Justin Nickels says a Boys and Girls Club is still in the mix.
“We’re going to have more conversations with them. You’ll probably see in a near-future Council agenda a discussion on how to move forward. It’s getting to the point where something needs to be done. That lot is just plain ugly.”
Nickels adds that several other viable options remain in play.
“We have to either aggressively market this sight, have the Boys and Girls Club go in there, or do we spend the money and turn into a park until something -per se- better something comes along? We have to take all these options into consideration in moving forward.”
Newell Rubbermaid is required by the EPA (Environmental Protection Agency) to pay for soil contamination testing that will continue for the foreseeable future. The mayor adds that although there’s a sense of urgency “no hard timetable has been given for a decision to be made”
