25TH Assembly District Representative Paul Tittl is working on pieces of legislation that he feels will benefit his constituency.
The Clubhouse Matching Grants Bill will help mental health organizations, such as Painting Pathways in Manitowoc, stay solvent.
“We want to provide a matching grant to them,” Tittl told Seehafer News. “They raise their all their own money for all of their operational costs. This bill would allow such organizations provided they’re an accredited clubhouse to receive up to $50,000 in matching grants.”
A second bill was actually conceived by a story he heard from a Manitowoc woman whose son is turning his life around in prison. She purchased a Bible for him to read but he didn’t have it for long as it was “too expensive’ under Department of Corrections guidelines.
“There’s a limit of $75 on personal items sent to inmates,” Tittl explained. “Because it was more expensive They took it away and destroyed it not even bothering to send it back to his mother.”
The Corrections Committee, of which Tittl is a member, is working on adjusting the value of personal items brought to inmates from $75 to $125 and musical instruments from $350 up to $600 to reflect the value in today’s dollars.
The local legislator encourages anyone with what he calls “life-experience” ideas for possible future bills or help with any state agency to call his Madison Office at 1-888-529-0025
