The Manitowoc American Legion Baseball team has won the Regional championship and is now headed to the 2021 Triple-A Wisconsin Legion State Tournament.
Post-88 jumped out to a 7-0 lead after 2 innings Saturday afternoon en route to a 7-to-5 victory over Fond du Lac in the Regional title contest at Wildwood Park in Sheboygan.
With the win, Manitowoc (13-5) advances to Plover and will battle Superior tomorrow afternoon (July 27th) at 1:00 PM in an opening-round game.
Josh Uhlhorn of Manitowoc Lutheran High School, the first of 3-pitchers utilized by Head Coach Stan Diedrich, earned the win.
Another Lancers’ product, Zach Marten, then pitched in relief with Brandon Stephany coming on in the 7th to retire the final two Fond du lac batters & notch the save.
Marten also went 2-for-4 at the plate with 2-RBI & a run scored while Jackson Schmitz, a recent Lincoln graduate picked up a pair of hits, a stolen base and 2-runs scored in the victory.
Brillion’s Robert Shimek also drove in a pair of runs for Legion Post-88.
