Twenty inmates at the Waupun Correctional Institution have made Wisconsin history by earning a four-year bachelor’s degree.
A graduation ceremony was held Tuesday. The 20 graduates all received a degree in biblical studies, with a minor in psychology, through Trinity University. Fifteen of the 20 graduates made the decision to transfer from low-level security prisons into Waupun’s maximum-security prison so they could earn their degrees.
There are a total of 75 inmates enrolled in the program. The Department of Corrections is looking to expand it to additional prison facilities in the state.
