“It’s an acute problem but we’re remedying it as fast as we can.”
Manitowoc County Executive Bob Ziegelbauer reached out to Seehafer News today saying after months of conversation and working out the details the UW-Extension has posted a job opening for a full-time AG Educator here.
“They’ve had a hiring freeze on for the better part of a year-and-a-half so that held us up to and now we’re finally getting some action but it’s slow action. We can’t control that other than persist and pester them from time to time to help speed it up.”
The County has not had an AG Educator since Scott Gunderson retired last August.
Ziegelbauer admits to being very frustrated by considering Manitowoc is the second leading AG producing county in Wisconsin with Marathon County in Central Wisconsin ranked first.
He admits paying 100 % of the cost helped the process along.
“They offered to split up the AG Educator position between a couple of counties in our area and we didn’t agree with that at all. The only way we were going to get a full-time AG Educator was to pay the full price so we’re going out there because agriculture is so important in Manitowoc County.”
The job is expected to be posted for approximately three weeks with the hope of having the position filled by late September.
