Wisconsin Governor Tony Evers has vetoed a series of election reform bills that were passed by the legislature.
In a tweet, Evers claimed that the bills “disproportionately impact communities of color, senior citizens, and those living with disabilities”. He also said that politicians should “should focus on making voting more accessible for everyone, not add barriers to decrease participation”.
Senate Majority Leader Devin LeMahieu disagrees with Evers, calling the measures, “commonsense election integrity bills” that would have “made it easy to vote and harder to cheat”.
The Oostburg Senator also said that “Protecting Voter ID laws and the integrity of our election is fundamental to a healthy republic. Governor Evers is standing in the way of restoring the trust in our process that has been lost.”
Many other Republicans have joined in LeMahieu’s line of thinking, with many Democrats taking the side of the Governor.
