COVID-19 cases have risen dramatically in Manitowoc County over the last month according to County Health Officer Stephanie Lambert.
“There have been an additional 67 confirmed cases and 16 probable cases of COVID-19 countywide. No deaths have been reported in the last week. The current seven-day average has increased by 37 % to 11.9 cases per day. The regional number of people hospitalized for COVID-19 has increased ninety percent over that same time period to 34 patients.”
Lambert adds the State Department of Health Services has designated Manitowoc County as an area of high community spread.
“At this time I recommend that all individuals regardless of vaccination status to wear masks to protect themselves and others. If you have not yet gotten a vaccine now is the time. All available COVID-19 vaccines remain remarkably effective in combating the COVID-19 virus. If you have a breakthrough infection they will help you from becoming seriously ill or dying. The vaccines are safe, free, and available to anyone age 12 and older.”
