An Appleton man has been sentenced to life in prison for the murders of a Manitowoc man and his daughter.
Circuit Court Judge Jerilyn Dietz sentenced Karl M. Hess to two life sentences to run concurrently for the September 7th 2018 deaths of then 51-year-old Richard Miller and 19-year-old Jocelyn Miller.
He was convicted by a jury in June of Two counts of First-Degree Intentional Homicide.
The motive for the crimes was purportedly for money Hess knew was in the Miller Residence as he was going through financial difficulties at the time. In handing down her sentence Judge Dietz stated that Hess had every opportunity to show remorse and act appropriately to prove his self-proclaimed innocence such as call police at the crime scene but her words “you didn’t do that.” Dietz also stated that she imposed the life sentences to protect the safety of the public in keeping Hess in prison for the rest of his life.
He will not be eligible for parole and was denied credit for 872 days already served in the Manitowoc County Jail.
