2,443. That is the number of U.S. Military deaths reported since the start of the U.S. occupation of Afghanistan.
A local veteran, with help from CoolestCoast.com, has organized an event for next Tuesday, where all of those names will be read to Remember the Fallen.
Our own Ryan Brahm organized the event, which he said is the least he could do to honor those who died in America’s longest war.
“I decided to organize this memorial to honor those who died in service to our country,” Brahm said. “As a veteran of Operation Enduring Freedom, I have seen and experienced first hand the effect our occupation of Afghanistan has had on the soldiers who served there, as well as the families of those who didn’t make it back. 2,443 men and woman gave their lives, and the least we can do to repay them is to not let their names be forgotten.”
All community members are invited to participate in the reading, which will start at 11:00 AM at The Wharf in Downtown Manitowoc.
To sign up, visit SeehaferNews.com, click the “more” tab, then click on “news tip”. Enter your name, email address, and telephone number, and in the news tip section write “Remember the Fallen Event Volunteer”.
The event is expected to last around 6 hours, so volunteers are also being asked to include a time frame that they would be available.
Please submit all requests to participate no later than 5:00 pm on Monday, August 23rd. A mass email will be sent out that night letting the volunteers know roughly when they will be scheduled to read.
A live stream of the reading will be aired on the Coolest Coast and Seehafer News Facebook Pages.
