Every 90-minutes someone is diagnosed with ALS, or Lou Gehrig’s Disease, and, every 90 minutes someone dies from it.
At this time, this is no known cure for the progressive, life-limiting disease that affects the function of the nerves and muscles. That’s why events like this past Saturday’s ManitoWALK VS. ALS are so important.
Tina Kocourek lost her mom, Bernette “Bernie” Seiler to amyotrophic Lateral Schlerosis three years ago in March, and it’s been a passion of hers to continue this to its’ 7th year.
Seehafer News spoke with Kocourek prior to the walk at Timeout Sports Bar & Grill, who explained that they featured their “ALS Heroes” on the front of the local sports bar. Kocourek explained that “Those are the people who had or have ALS and are supporting this event.”
It was estimated about 200 people walked the 3-miles Saturday morning. Silent & Oral Auction items were up for bid and 10% of all food and drink sales during and after the event were donated by Timeout to the ALS Wisconsin chapter.
Kocourek explained that local residents can still donate to the cause.
“We have a Facebook page…and there is a link on there that goes right to the ALS Wisconsin Chapter,” she explained. On those sites, there are ways to donate as they attempt to reach their $40,000 goal.
The hope and care that the chapter provides help for individuals to meet the daily challenge of living with ALS.
