Manitowoc Mayor Justin Nickels Office and the Friends of Red Arrow Park invite members of the public to a 9/11 Memorial Event and Dedication Saturday September 11th.
This is the 20th Anniversary of those who lost their lives after the attacks on the Twin Towers in New York City, the Pentagon in Washington D.C., and those on Flight 93 that crashed in Pennsylvania.
Nickels says the event-held in partnership with the city of Manitowoc will be from 9 to 11 a.m. at Red Arrow Park in Manitowoc.
“Christine Snyder, who was killed on Flight 93, will be remembered and there will be a dedication of the Flowering Pear Tree that has been planted at Red Arrow Park as a seedling from the only surviving tree at Ground Zero,” Nickels explained. “Christine Snyder was in Washington D.C. at an Arborist Conference-traveled to New York to visit relatives and then boarded Flight 93 for her return to Hawai’i.”
Nickels says part of next Saturday’s event will also focus on the effect that 9/11 has had on the Wisconsin National Guard deployments.
“The deployment mural will be dedicated to Captain Karin Deimer who passed away shortly after returning from a tour in 2010,” he said. “The lives of six Wisconsin National Guard Soldiers whose lives were lost during the Iraq War will also be memorialized and their families have all been invited to the event.”
A new art piece will be added to the Mourning Sun Memorial and dedicated to the Wisconsin National Guard.
Pastor Matt Sauer will be providing the opening prayer.
