Manitowoc Lincoln’s Mason Gates was an individual champion while 4-Ships Girls placed among the top-20 runners last night at the Tom Finlan Invitational host by Green Bay Preble.
Gates ran the 5-K in 16:34 and the Ships wound up 2nd to team champion Preble in the 10-team cross country meet. Six Lincoln boys placed among the first 20-competitors to cross the finish line.
In the Girls race, Manitowoc’s Elena Zavala was 13th to lead her squad to a 3rd place finish behind host Preble and runner up Sheboygan North.
Brooklyn Luebke of Manitowoc Lutheran captured the individual title in a time of 19:38, as the Lancer girls took 4th overall.
The Lutheran Boys, who did have a complete team, were paced by Shawn Egerers’ 17th place medal at 19:04.
Meanwhile, Valders won the Boys portion of the Kiel Cross Country Invitational for the 12th consecutive time last night.
The Vikings’ Shane Griepentrog toured the 5K course in a blistering 15-minutes & 22-seconds which according to Coach Bill Dietrich is the fastest time in the state so far this season. His teammate Clay Taylor placed 2nd overall in 16:26.
Two Rivers finished 3rd led by the Raiders Eli Gallagher, host Kiel came in 6th paced by Pierce Arenz and Roncalli was 10th led by Brayden Yanda.
Kiel took 1st in the Girls division paced by Lily Watson and Two Rivers ended up 3rd with the one-two finish of Individual champion Mikaela Helling and runner-up Anna Gallagher.
Valders wound up 5th paced by a 12th place finish from Elizabeth Backus.
The next meet for many area teams is tomorrow’s Sue Schmitt Invite, hosted by Roncalli, at Lincoln Park.
