The recent Driver Sober or Get Pulled Over Campaign was deemed a huge success according to Manitowoc Police Chief Nick Reimer.
“We had 214 traffic stops, and of those traffic stops, we issued 89 citations and 185 warnings, and arrested 6 individuals for OWI,” the Chief explained. “We just want to make those roads safer.”
Reimer says one of the top complaints from citizens is the excessive speeding that occurred throughout the city.
“We have a lot of calls for service, and we have to handle those first, but when we have time, we want to do those traffic stops,” Reimer said. “This Drive Sober mobilization gives us a chance to really focus on those traffic stops and the behavior of people driving in Manitowoc. Hopefully, they learn their lesson.
This latest mobilization effort funded through a grant from the Department of Transportation began August 20th and ran through Labor Day.
