“I’m very grateful for all the great stuff that we’re doing. I have to first thank the offensive linemen. I had two touchdowns where I was untouched. I couldn’t do this without them.”
That’s Sophomore Running Back Chase Matthias of the Two Rivers Raiders.
He carried the ball 20 times for 203 yards and three rushing touchdowns in the Raiders 52-0 victory over Roncalli on Homecoming Friday night at Raider Field.
In the process, Chase became the school’s all-time career rushing leader with 2301 yards breaking the record of 2268 yards that was set by Chris Satterburg in 1992 and 93.
Junior Offensive lineman Connor Sanford says it’s fun to block for Number 28.
“It’s kind of effortless honestly,” Standford said. “He’s such a good halfback. I don’t know. We just do our assignments get on a body and he’s gone.”
Head Coach Kevin Shillcox says the entire O-Line deserves credit.
“Casey Hibbard our center, Connor Reed is our left guard., Tristian and Braedon Olivera along with Freshman Christian Pyles do such an outstanding job,” the coach said. “Those guys are the ones moving the bodies for Chase to run the ball. I liked the plan that the coaches put together for running the ball and it worked just like we thought it was going to.”
Matthias is now the school record holder in six categories including single-game rushing yardage, single-season rushing yardage, most rushing touchdowns in a single game, single-season rushing, touchdowns, and career total touchdowns with 27 all in less than two seasons.
Matthias and the Raiders host the New Holstein Huskies Friday night in a game they must win to become playoff eligible.
Kickoff is at 7:00 PM.
