A Waukesha County judge has sentenced a man to 22 years in prison for causing his 6-year-old stepson’s death.
42-year-old Carl Bookout of Waukesha pleaded no contest to charges of first-degree reckless homicide in February.
A child abuse charge was dismissed.
The victim, Lukas, has autism and was non-verbal.
Bookout told investigators he had dropped the boy down some stairs accidentally.
His attorney maintained the child’s death was an accident.
The mother will also serve prison time for failing to act to prevent bodily harm.
