Dorothy A. Wilhelm, age 89, of Manitowoc, passed away Wednesday afternoon October 20, 2021, at Holy Family Memorial Medical Center.
The former Dorothy A. Stanzel was born on February 13, 1932, in Manitowoc, daughter of the late Edward and Viola (Schuette) Stanzel. Dorothy grew up in Manitowoc and was a 1950 graduate of Manitowoc Lincoln High School. On September 26, 1951, Dorothy married Kenneth N. Wilhelm in Manitowoc. He preceded her in death on February 13, 2009. Dorothy was a caregiver throughout her life and was the hot lunch director for the Catholic grade school system in Manitowoc for many years. Dorothy and Kenneth were foster parents for many years. She was a member of St. Francis of Assisi Parish, Manitowoc, and it’s St. Clare Society. Her children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren were the light of her life.
Survivors include her son and daughter-in-law: Gary (Patricia) Wilhelm, Manitowoc; three grandchildren: Katherine (Joseph) Zietlow, Green Bay, Matthew (Lisa) Wilhelm, Waukesha, Megan (Bryan) Scherer; three great-grandchildren: Haileigh, Dominick, Aleighya Zietlow and friend: Margaret Niesen, Yuma, AZ; nieces, nephews, and other relatives survive. Dorothy was preceded in death by her parents, her husband: Kenneth N. Wilhelm; one son: Bradley Wilhelm; one brother: Edward Stanzel; two sisters and two brothers-in-law: Lucille (Howard) Lindgren, Gladys (Joseph) Kersten; one sister-in-law: Arlene Wilhelm.
Funeral services will be held at 10:30 AM on Tuesday, October 26, 2021, at St. Francis of Assisi on Marshall, 2109 Marshall Street. Officiating at the Mass of Christian Burial will be the Rev. Ben Johnson, with burial to follow in the Calvary Cemetery in Manitowoc. The family will greet relatives and friends on Tuesday at the church from 9:00 AM until the time of Mass.
