Dinosaurs Invade the Library!
Manitowoc Public Library is experiencing the onset of Dinovember! For those unfamiliar with it, Dinovember is a magical time of year when toy dinosaurs come to life at night and create mischief and mayhem all throughout the month of November. It was first “documented” in 2012 by Refe and Susan Tuma, when they began posting pictures on social media of toy dinos coming to life each night while their children slept. They have since published three books sharing the antics of the prehistoric playthings.
We have recently discovered that some of these Jurassic Jokesters have indeed gotten into the Library. We have photographic evidence of their escapades and will be sharing those photos throughout the month of November in our Children’s Department, as well as on our Facebook page (www.facebook.com/manitowoclibrary).
Rather than putting an end to these shenanigans, we have planned several activities to embrace them. In addition to posting pictures of “What Do Dinosaurs Do When the Library is Closed,” we have two visual displays that show how long Diplodocus was, and how big a Triceratops footprint was. In the style of March Madness, we have posted a “Carnivores vs. Herbivores” bracket and will crown the top vote-getter at the end of the month. There are weekly dinosaur-themed trivia questions, a guessing game to see how many dinos are in a jar, a Grab-and-Go craft, and, of course, dinosaur book displays.
We will host a preschool dinosaur-themed storytime on Thursday, November 11 at 9:30 AM (no registration required), as well as a Family Activity Night Dinosaur Party on Tuesday, November 16 at 6:30 PM. Themed crafts, activities, and a photo-op will be part of the festivities. To register for this event, please visit our “Events” page on our website, www.manitowoclibrary.org, or call the Youth Department at (920) 686-3030 during business hours.
Please come and visit us this month and check out all of the dino-mite activities that make up Dinovember!
